    More information:

The whole day through you will enjoy the beautiful environment of the Natural Park of Cabo de Gata, with its specific flora and fauna, the unmatched view over the coast, a confluence of mountains and coast.

The “Cabo de Gata”, one of the milestones of the Mediterranean Coast in the southeastern part of the Iberian Peninsula, the extreme part of a volcanic mountain range that makes the eastern border between the lowlands of Almeria and the Land of Nijar. The contact with the sea is characterized through the presence of beautiful cliffs, alternated with little beaches which were used by seamen as shelter. Pirates used them to hide themselves and to ambush. For centuries pirates were active in this area and as a result of this hardly any steady population settled here. This led to a very good preservation of this whole area. The largest variety of birds is concentrated in summertime, but any season is suitable for watching different birds such as avocetsstiltsheronsseagullsducks and above all flamingos.

At Los Escullos we find the largest fossilized dune in the Natural Park, where the erosion of wind, rain and sea waves carved impressive shapes. And crowning the dune, we find the Castle of San Felipe, built to prevent attacks by Berber pirates who sailed along these coasts during the XVI - XVIII centuries.

Isleta del Moro is a little touristic fishermen village, next to an enormous rock and a little island to which it owns its name, in the past often visited by Arabs and pirates searching for treasures. One suspects that it was the Berber leader Mohamed Arráez who gave his name to the village. It is constituted by a little group of white houses where simple people live, who since time immemorial have been engaged in fishing although nowadays this is diminishing more and more.

San Jose was established as a fishing hamlet in the Bay of San Jose. But at present this little village has replaced its fishing activities with a sustainable touristic development. In accordance with the beauty and the forms of the environment, it has converted itself in to the touristic center of the Park. From San Jose one has access to the beaches of Los Genoveses and El Monsul, the most spectacular virgin beaches of the Mediterranean Sea.

Originally Rodalquilar is a mining village, situated in a valley of an exceptional beauty, surrounded by mountains and hills full with mines, now without activity. The fact that it finds itself within the Natural Park of Cabo de Gata – Nijar has favored the rehabilitation of some older houses in Rodalquilar, alternating with the ruins of the old houses of the miners.

Cabo de Gata is a unique natural area, unique in Europe, with contrasting country sides and a game of light that impresses anyone who visits this Park. With one of the most beautiful coastlines of the eastern Mediterranean Sea, full of ecological richness, the Natural Park of Cabo de Gata has developed itself into one of the natural jewels of AlmeriaAndalusia and of the whole of Spain.

Carboneras lies at the foot of the mountains Sierra Cabrera, directly at the sea, with a beach of 14 kilometers long. At the same time it is the eastern entrance to the Natural Park Cabo de Gata – Nijar and 78% of its territory lies inside this Natural Park. It still keeps the charms of a typical fishermen village and nearby we can see the rough and arid landscapes as well as the green riverbeds and regions where there used to be agriculture. Carboneras is famous for its Beach of the Dead and the Festivities of Moors and Christians. Nearby we can find the largest desalination installation of Europe.

Mojacar is one of the most charming villages on the east coast of Almeria. The popular architecture of white houses, the beaches and the environment are the best publicity for this little village. Mojacar lies on a hill at the foothills of Sierra Cabrera. The village center is of Arabian origin and still keeps its peculiar structure of terraces, small streets and typical corners. At the foot of the village lies a strip of more than 5 kilometers of beautiful beaches.

The Moorish Fountain with twelve springs, at the foot of the village, the fortress-church of Santa Maria, built as from the middle of the 16th century onwards, the water-reservoir of the old Nasrid Castle, the Gate of Luciana and the Gate of the City (which leads to one of the most beautiful corners of the village) are worthwhile to be visited. It is difficult to indicate where to look, as in Mojacar you will find one beautiful corner after the other. There is no other advice then to wander through the little streets, where you will always find something to admire.Coach trips from Roquetas de Mar - online booking, lowest prices guaranteed

Join us to a WORLD OF ADVENTURE!

Parque Oasys is the most original Theme Park of the Coast of the Mediterranean Sea, with live shows that imitate life in the Far West, real film-specialists and sympathetic Can Can dancers, the Museum of Film history (one of the best in Spain) and a Museum of Carriages and Stagecoaches.

In the middle of this impressive landscape of the Desert of Tabernas this cowboy village reminds of the Wild and Far West of America. In the sixties and seventies famous directors came under the spell of this natural scene and decided to make their films here. Famous films were made here, such as The Good, The Bad and the UglyLawrence of ArabiaFor A Fistful of Dollars and Once Upon A Time, amongst others. Also scenes for the films Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, 2001-A Space Odyssey and Patton were shot here.

FORT APACHE Indeed there is a scene as Fort Apache, but in reality it is only meant to be a scene, as it has never been used in a film.

SALOON Any cowboy film that appreciates itself has a Saloon, where they play poker and drink whiskey and where during the fights the furniture is broken and they jump through the windows.

THE SHERIFF’S OFFICE The Sheriff’s office should not miss, with jails for the prisoners, who bandits always want to free.

GALLOW Rarely are the lynching and executions in the cowboy movies performed, since it is almost always "the good guy" who at the last moment knows to avoid them.

BANK The scenes of bank robberies are mostly the most spectacular scenes, because the “bad guys” are always very bad.

CHURCH With respect to the robberies and the shooting, the church is without doubt a place of peace, where the priest leads the believers along the right path. In the cowboy films every Sunday almost all the inhabitants went to church.

SCHOOL The school is not exactly one of the most frequently used decors in cowboy films as there are hardly any children appearing in this kind of films.

You can also enjoy the Animal Reserve, with more than 170 species of animals originating from different continents and specialized in savage habitats, especially in the African Savanna. You should also visit the section where you can see the tigers, pumas and cheetahs… you can also enjoy the Footprint Museum, the Reptilarium, the Cocodrile Pond, the birds in their cages, the predators, the petting zoo and the Parrots Show. Neither should you miss the Cactus Garden with more than 300 species.Book your day trip to Mini Hollywood - Oasys Theme Park tickets included

    More information:

Nerja, located in the eastern part of the Costa del Sol, has all the ingredients to make a visit attractive. The average year temperature, around 20 degrees Celsius, the beautiful mountains of La Axarquia, as well as the steep coast where cliffs and beaches alternate, are some of the attractions. The Old Town holds splendid witnesses of the popular architecture, with beautiful avenues and emblematic corners such as the Balcony of Europe, a marvellous viewpoint over the sea. Amongst the monuments it is worth mentioning the little church of Nuestra Señora de Las Angustias, patron saint of the village. It was built in the 16th century and is well known because of the ceiling paintings that embellish the dome.

The region has been inhabited since prehistory, as the rock paintings reveal which were discovered in the famous Caves of Nerja, known as the “Prehistoric Cathedral”. The Caves of Nerja, discovered in 1959, are one of the most important touristic attractions of the village. The caves, which were declared Artistic Historic Monument, possess around 2 kilometres of galleries which can be visited by the public. Here we can admire surprising geologic formations which were formed through a slow development that took place over the centuries. High arches and large rooms decorated with columns, stalactites and stalagmites ensure that the whole is known as the “Prehistoric Cathedral”. The Room of the Waterfall, called this way because of the special form a group of stalactites has made, is the privileged stage where the Festival Cueva de Nerja takes place, which for the last three decades has brought together prestigious figures of music, dance and theatre.

The caves are also of archaeological interest, as the possess a collection of rockpaintings which are attributes to the Palaeolithic and rests have been found from other periods, such as the Epipalaeolithic or the Neolithic. In the Room of the Hall an interesting exposition on ceramics, tools and paintings that were found here, can be seen.

In the easternmost part of the Axarquia region in the province of Malaga, in the Sierras de Almijara, Tejeda and Alhama Natural Park, lies the village of Frigiliana, overlooking the Mediterranean, with a population of approximately 3.000 inhabitants.

Three hundred meters above sea level and with a subtropical microclimate, arises, as if awakening from the past, its praised and award-winning Historical Center, of Moorish heritage, where the narrow, winding and steep streets, the passageways, walkways and ravelins form a unique urban network of small houses that are perched on top of each other. It is a structure that many have described as the purest popular architectural ensemble of Arab origin in the province of Malaga.

Awarded with the 1st National Beautification Award in 1982, its historic center has been a Historic-Artistic Site since 2014.

Each corner of the old town has its own particular identity, although you will always find cobbled streets, generally steep, and extreme cleanliness, almost exclusive responsibility of each neighbor, plants and flowers adorning the corners and a whiteness of the facades that fill our streets with light. And it is that the greatest charm of Frigiliana is precisely its old town.

Calle Real is the main artery of the historic center, the only one that can be accessed by vehicles, from which all the streets and alleys that lead us to “Barribarto” start. On this street we will find the Town Hall and Church Square, and also “El Zacatín” street, one of the most colorful and emblematic of Frigiliana. The name Zacatín used to be given to those squares or streets where clothes were sold, in fact, Frigiliana is not the only town that has a “zacatín”, so it would not be surprising if this street was the place for the sale of clothes in old times.

During the walk through Frigiliana you will find the remains that history has left in the form of monuments that still remain as a natural part of its streets, the Ingenio, currently the only cane honey factory in Europe, the Old Fountain, the Hermitage of Ecce Homo, Los Reales Positos or el Torreon are some of the examples of the monuments that you will find on your walk through the historic center of Frigiliana, in the Mudejar style, and the most awarded in the Axarquia region.

The traditional cuisine of the Axarquia has in Frigiliana a reference of the first magnitude. The natural products of the land: cane honey, virgin olive oil, the rich Muscat broths from its vineyards and fresh vegetables from its gardens, make up one of the most unique cuisines in the province. Dishes as exquisite and peculiar as those made based on the meat of the kid stand out. It is prepared fried, either with garlic or with a variety of sauces, one of the most exquisite being the almond sauce.

    More information:

The harbour of Cartegena, at the Costa Calida, has been appreciated since the time of the Carthaginians. The city has been populated by different cultures because of its strategic position at the coast of Murcia. These cultures have left behind their influence on the artistic heritage of Cartagena. A walk through the city and its museums takes us into the history of a city closely united with the sea.

Carthaginians and Romans were always interested in this maritime enclave which actual name comes from the latin name Cartago Nova. Cartagena was also dominated by the arabs until Ferdinand III The Saint reconquered the city and it was integrated in the Kingdom of Castille. The harbour has played an important role in the spanish War of Succession and the War of Independence.

The rich heritage of Cartagena runs along the quay of the marina. The Muralla del Mar (the Wall of the Sea), built by order of Charles III (in the eighteenth century), defines the old center. Towards the Mediterranean Sea two elements of a close relationship with the sea can be found: the prototype of a submarine constructed by the carthaginian inventor Isaac Peral, and the National Museum for Maritime Archeology. This Museum, on the the Dique de Navidad, also contains the National Center for Archeological Submarine Investigations. Through different foundings we can learn the aspects of shipbuilding, trade and navigation in ancient times.

The Punic Wall was discovered in 1989. Its construction dates back to the year 227 b.C. when the punic city of Quart Hadast was founded. It is a fortification to Hellenistic model, formed by two parallel walls with a mutual distance of 6 meters, conected with eachother by other walls. The punic city was shut by this construction, as it formed a part of the isthmus, the only acces to the city.

The entrance to the city is dominated by the Palacio Consistorial, also called Ayuntamiento, the City Townhall, a jewel of modernistic architecture of the beginning of the twentieth century. Walking towards the Parque Torres (behind the Muralla del Mar) we will reach the Cathedral. It is the oldest temple of Cartagena (thirteenth century), whose remnants were preserved on top of the stand of the Roman Theatre, discovered in 1987. This construction dates back to the first century before Christ and it is one of the most important roman theatres in Spain, together with the theatre in Merida. The Municipal Archeological Museum shows many of the pieces that were found during the excavations, such as altar stones, reliefs and sculptures. Good examples of the roman splendor are the remnants of the amphitheatre (in the bullring), the archeological site called El Molinete, the collonade of the “Moreria Baja” and the Byzantine Wall, which, in spite of its name, is also roman. In the Parque Torres rises the castle “Castillo de la Concepcion”. Situated on top of a hill it has been a fortress for CarthaginiansRomans,VisigothsArabs and Spaniards.

To know the modernistic architecture of Cartagena one has to make a walk along the Calle Mayor, which starts at the Plaza del Ayuntamiento. Here we find the Houses Cervantes and Llagostera, works of the carthaginian architect Victor Beltri, whose characteristic elements are viewpoints, works in iron and bronze reliefs of allegoric figures. The Casino, the Gran Hotel, the Railway Station and the Houses Maestre and Dorada are also representative buildings for this artistic movement.

Elegant and civic monuments that tell us about the economic development of the region based on mining and industry at the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century. The Palaces of Aguirre and Pedreño are more aristocratic, one with a more modernistic style, the other one with a more neoclassic style.

Next to the walled Old Town the Military Arsenal is situated, built during the government of Charles III. In these walls we can find the only gate which was left. One can also visit the Maritime Museum, located on the limits of the modern city and also connected with the history of Cartagena. Here we can see navigation instruments of old ships, charts and navigation maps, next to models of all kind of ships. The fishing district Santa Lucia is also worthwhile to pay a visit.

The diversity in the landscape of the Region of Murcia enriches also the gastronomy, where products of the horticultue, the sea and the inland go hand in hand. In Cartagena there is no doubt about the predominance of salted fish, fresh fish, stews and paellas. The many saltlakes of the Mediterranean Sea are used to prepare salted fish (specially tunafisch and different kinds of mackerel) and the fish “a la sal” (fish in the oven, cooked under a layer of salt) such as bream. The stews with mullet, sea devil, dentex… accompanied with rice cooked in the same pot, and garnished with alioli sauce. The figbread is a specialty of the region, and the “asiatico”, property of Cartagena “delights” the coffee with condensed milk, brandy and cinnamon.

    More information:

The Natural Park Sierra Maria – Los Velez is situated in the utmost north of the province of Almeria. The Sierra Maria possesses a spectacular beauty despite of the dryness which is typical for the landscape of Almeria, especially in winter, when the mountain tops are covered with snow. An extensive and well preserved forest, unique species of plants and more then 100 different kinds of birds form the natural heritage of the Comarca de los Velez.

The region Sierra Maria – Los Velez owns a rich artistic and monumental heritage. The majestic and monumental village of Velez Blanco, situated in the province of Almeria, lies at more then thousand meter above sealevel in the shadows of the mountain Maimon, on the slopes of the mountain that has been crowned with the impressive castle. The village was occupied by people such as the Iberians, Romans, Visigoths and MoslimsVelez-Blanco, seat of the Marquisate of Los Velez, owns one of the most beautiful and most representative castles of the Spanish Renaissance: the Castle-Alcazar of Los Fajardo (16th century). Also wellknown is the convent-church of San Luis, in platersque style and with a Mudejar tower. The city was built in the Middle Ages, the distribution of the streets has to do with the situation between hills and valleys and with the typical architecture of the houses, square or rectangular, even up to three storeys high. With the impressive mountains on the background the city still has a strategic position in the province, which was already used by the Nasrids in order to strengthen the borders with the Kingdom of Granada. Finally the city was peacefully handed over to the Catholic Kings in 1488: witness of this moment can be found in the choir of the Cathedral of Toledo.

The moslim heritage is deeply rooted in Velez Blanco. Almost the whole urban structure has been preserved, with an emphasize on the district La Moreria and the fountains with water frin the mountain MaimonCaños de la NoviaCinco CañosCaños de Caravaca and Caños del Meson. The city is perfectly described by the word ‘monumental’, due to the rich heritage that has been preserved inside its walls. The mansions, built with stones and bricks, and with a baroc influence, are situated in the main streets of the city, especially the House of the Bañones or the House of the Arcos, built in the 18th and 19th century.

But if there is a compulsory visit, then it is the Castle Palace of the Marquess of Los Velez. At the beginning of the 16th century the first Marquess of the city, Don Pedro Fajardo, ordered its construction to Italian architects. In 1931 it was declared Artistic Historic Heritage. Of the fortress only the exterior was kept, as the decoration on the interior was sold, nowadays it can be seen in the Metropolitan Museum of New York.It has been devided in two sections: the rectangular structure of the old alcazaba in stone and the main building in brickwork, at present in restauration.

In the Natural Park Sierra Maria – Los Velez we also find archeologic sites of great significance, such as the Cave of Los Letreros, with rockpaintings from the Neolithicum, the Cave of Ambrosio, an important site related to the Superior Paleolithicum.

Adra is a city, situated in the region of Poniente, at 50 km. of the capital, the fourth municipality of importance in the province, with more then 24.500 inhabitants. Traditionally the economy is based on fishing and the sea in general. The foundation by the Phoenicians in the 8th century BC. made Abdera a unique commercial enclave. Later the Romans transported their garum, a very appreciated product in the roman kitchen, from the abderitanian coast to many harbours around the Mediterranean Sea.

Sugarcanes were introduced during the second half of the sixteenth century and together with the canning industry, it developped Adra into a very important commercial harbour. The increase in commercial activities with other mediterranean harbours awakened the interest of italian merchants from Genova and Milan; the control over the production of sugarcanes as also their transformation provided them a huge influence in the city of Adra.

Nowadays, the harbour of Adra, built as from 1911, is still one one of the most influential harbours on the mediterannean coast considering the extension of the fleet. The agricultural sector with the intensive horticulture, also called horticulture under plastic, is the basis for the economy of the city, which reminds of the importance of Adra since the 16th century with the production of sugarcanes. The spectacular economical activity which is developped by the service-sector should not be forgotten.

The city of Adra, situated on the border of the provinces of Almeria and Granada, has a coast of more then 13 km. where many beaches can be found, each one of them with a unique and attractive beauty. That is why these beaches in the last several years have become the holiday destination of many visitors. Gorafe and its megalithic park – a voyage in to the Neolithicum...

The Stream of Gor is a natural vally situated in a geografical corridor which was intensively used during the Prehistoric Perios, a border between groups of tribes in the east and in the south of Andalusia. The neolithic settlements which formed here at the beginning of the 5th millenium b.C. had a complex hierarchical society, and an economy based on agriculture and cattle breeding. People lived in houses dug in to the slopes of the mountains or in stone constructions covered with leaves. The dead were buried in very typical constructions: the dolmens. Nowadays there are more then 240, which makes Gorafe the village with the largest concentration of these tumulus on the whole Iberian Peninsula, and even in a large part of Europe.

This little village is characterised by an abrupt landscape. The terrain is flanked by the valley of the river Gor and for centuries the erosion has marked off a ravine with a multitude of gullies and clefts. The nature embraces the visitor with large stone walls and the landscape speaks for itself. Far away from the haste and stress of the big cities it looks like the first civilisations decided to leave their heritage right here; more then 240 dolmens which have time stand still in order to make an imaginary voyage in to the past.

In the streets of this village one breathes the peace that is characteristic for the majority of the villages in the northern region of the province. The inhabitants walk through the streets of the village, an aging population which exists due to a family-based agriculture, seasonal immegration and rural tourism. Allthough the village dates back to the 16th century, the church has a modern appearance as several renovation works were done to improve the preservation. The church of Mary Annunciation is the most representative monument.

The Interpretation Center of the Magelithic Period sits in a subterranean building of 600 square meters that imitates the structure and the distribution of the rooms of a dolmen. There are explanatory texts regarding this prehistoric cultural phenomenon and the chronological and social context. The recently inaugurated audio-visual projection in 3D is very interesting as it takes the visitor 5000 years back in time to know the old river Gor. One enters this dolmen museum through a ramp after which one enters a vaulted space, just like in the old tombes. It is the largest Interpretation Center of the region of Guadix and of the province of Granada.

The Health Spa of Alicun is situated close to the convergence of the rivers Fardes and Gor, a true oasis in the middle of an arid and savage environment. The archeologic rests nearby contribute something extra to the stay. The leisure complex with natural swimmingpools is a true pleasure. Daily about 100 liters of water per second well out of different springs near the Baños de Alicun, which flow through different streams into irrigation canals such as the Acueducto del Toril. This Acueducto del Toril is a strange, natural formation which exists due to the intervention of man. This limestone formation is considered to be unique in the world. It is a wall of limestone, formed through the ages by rainfall and depositions of mineral salts that flow through this aqueduct. What used to be a normal irrigation canal on ground level, probably to take the water to the paleolithic village, nowadays has heigths of more then 15 meters for a length of around a kilometer on some part of its path.

    More information:

The city of Lorca lies on a throughway in the Mediterranean corridor, between the mountains of Sierra del Caño and the horticultural area, which has given the city an important role for many centuries. More then two thousand years of history together with a rich architectonic and artistic heritage make of Lorca a city to be discovered. In 1964 Lorca was named Conjunto Historico-Artistico (historic and cultural complex) and is called the “baroc city” because of its important monumental heritage which belongs to this style.

From the Paleolithic Period to the Romanization a large variety of cultures and colonizations converged in the city of Lorca, as many archeological sites do witness of. Good examples are the Milestone from the roman period, the Tower of the Espolon and the Tower Alfonsina. Also noteworthy are the Porch of San Antonio, a gate in the old city walls that defended the city and which dates back to the 10th century, the churches and monastries from different periods and styles, the palaces and the mansions like the Palace of Guevara, the Palace of the Counts of San Juan or the Mansion of the Mula. Regarding military architecture the fortress is significant, as the old medieval alcazaba was restructured in an inexpugnable whole. As part of the popular architecture the buildings Zapateria and Cava must be mentioned, situated at the cobbled streets that flank the Plaza de España.

Allthough the Castle is the most important and most emplematic element of the city, it is the Plaza de España and its surroundings that give Lorca its elegance, and it forms a hallmark for the importance Lorca had in Modern Time. The urban design of this square, the former Plaza de Aguera, started when the city began to chance its morphology and further developped itself outside the city walls. During its whole existance it has served for the most diverse activities, such as a place for prayer, for festivities, markets, bullfights and the execution of prisoners.

Of all religious buildings the Colegiata of San Patricio is without any doubt of the highest importance and significance. This temple, dedicated to San Patricio (Saint Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland), in memory of and in commemoration of the victory in the Battle of the Alporchones, fought by the people of Lorca against the moslims on March 17th, 1452.

The Museum of Embroidery Paso Blanco, the former Monastery of Santo Domingo, has an exposition of its best works in silk and gold covering the whole history of the Brotherhood, as well as carriages, suits of armor and other objects that form part of the different biblical groups that celebrate the Procesion of Holy Week.

The House of Guevara, also called the House of the Columns, is the most important private house of the whole baroc style of the city. Probably it was Juan de Guevara García de AlcarazKnight of the Order of Santiago and one of the governors of Lorca, who in 1689 ordered the construction of this building for a private house. At present some of the rooms of the house can be visited, such as the Hall of Camachos, the hallway, the red room, the main bedroom and the dining room. Of all the rooms that are open to the public well worth seeing are the side tables and the dressers, all in different styles and spread across the whole building. Also interesting to see are a bed in portuguese style, a collection of fans and above all a collection of paintings. The patio is formed by two arches on either side of the square, leaning upon columns of white marble and decorated with floral motives, child’s heads, weapons and simulated architecture on the upper floor.

In 1931 the Castle of Lorca was declared Artistic Historic Monument. It crowns the city from a hill which offers optimal conditions for controle and safety over the valley of the river Guadalentin, circumstances that favoured the establishment of the city since prehistoric times. The actual physiognomy of the Castle is the result of the many reforms and renovations that took place in order to adapt the castle to its military function. The rests of the mighty Islamic alcazaba (713 – 1244) are visible on some of the mural paintings which are known under the name “el espaldon” and next to the wells that corresponded to the vital requirements for water. After the surrender of Lorca in 1244, the Castle continued its military functions, accentuated by the fact that it formed the border with the Nasrid Kingdom of Granada. During the second half of the thirteenth century Alfons X started the construction of three towers, one of which got lost, nowadays characteristic for the fysiognomy of the fortress. At present the alcazaba, called “Fortress of the Sun”, has been converted into a thematic whole where leisure, culture, diversion, instructiveness and history are combined with show. The Castle of Lorca is a theatre where young and old are the real leading figures and where fun and culture are guaranteed.

A trip along the Costa Tropical and the Costa del Sol, past the typical white villages of Andalusia.

Malaga, founded by the Phoenicians, is situated at the coast of the Mediterranean Sea with its mild blue water, under the intense warm andalusian sun, full of style and charm. Its fame in tourism comes above all from the Costa del Sol. Not in vain is the city proud of its climate, one of the warmest and most enchanting climates of the Iberian Peninsula, with so many sun-hours per years that it would be a pure coincidence if your visit takes places on a cloudy day. The city as well as the province contain exceptional wonders, the testimony of a long, rich history. The city is lively and cozy, with numerous gardens and the andalusian grace of architecture with memories of the Arabs. But more the buildings, Malaga is famous as here Pablo Picasso was born, of which the Museum Picasso remembers.

Malaga is one of the most visited cities of Europe. Amongst the monuments we visit is the cathedral, whose construction was started in 1528 by Diego de Siloe and is also called “the lame” as the construction was never finished, as also the ruins of the Castle of Gibralfaro, an arabian fortress from the 14th century where the Parador can be found.

There is no other advice then to wander through the little streets, where you will always find something to admire.

Garrucha is the fishermen village par excellence of the Levante Almeriense, as well as a touristic center, which is perfectly capable of combining the typical structure of the village with beautiful beaches, the marina, an exquisite gastronomy based on fish from the area and all the necessary services to enjoy a pleasant holiday. During the 19th century it was an important industrial region, and in memory to the mining a Chimney, an old foundry. Everything smells after sea: from the old salt mines or Afoli, from the period of Al Andalus, nowadays the Town Hall, to the Castle of Jesus of Nazareth or “Escobetas”, built during the government of Charles III to the defend the coast, of course with a splendid view over the Mediterranean Sea.Make a booking

Seron is one of the villages in Almeria with an own personality, a rich prehistory and a rich history, rural, healthy air and the good art of drying its most emblematic product: hamSeron has everything what is needed for a good touristic offer: a beautiful countryside, especially in the area of Las Menas, on the northern route towards El Calar; a beautiful white village, crowned with an impressive castle what looks over the valley of Almanzora, between farmlands and green; an excellent gastronomy with is characterized, of course, by the ham.

It is essential to get to know Seron, the Seron of Las Menas and its history and countryside; the village itseld, the castle which still treasures rests of the original fortress from the time of the Arabs, the little sympethatic church Virgen de los Remedios, its well restaured square and the parish church that dates from the 16th century. A whole town full with natural beauty and with remnants of a very rich history.

The marble of the Sierra de los Filabres, known as the marble of Macael, is present in the whole history just as it is present nowadays all over the world. The marble of Macael was used by the Phoenicians and in large blocks it has contributed to the Roman civilization and the civilization of Al Andalus. Furthermore it has contributed to our history, before and after the Moorish Revolt and the repopulation of the village, at important works like the Royal Chapel of the Ctholic Kings in Granada (1521) and the Monastery of El Escorial (1581), the Cathedral of jaen (1655) andthe Royal Palace of Madrid (1792).

In the center of this production lies the village of Macael which has given its name to the marble of Los Filabres. A village clearly in expansion, surrounded by quarries and workshops, the continuous traffic of lorries, elevated on a hill and whose streets and squares together with the ballustrades are a monument to the marble. With a beautiful green view over the river Laroya on one side of the village, in Macael one has to look foor the beauty in the prosperity that eradiates from this village, the good construction of a village in a continuous expansion and constant renovation, an atmosphere that speaks for itself, looking into the future with confidence.

The Spanish German Astronomical Observatory Calar Alto, situated under the priviliged sky of he Sierra de los Filabres, on a hight of 2168 meters above sealevel, is the most important Observatory on the European continent. It is used by the Max-Planck Institute for Astronomy in HeidelbergGermany, and the Institute for Astrophysics of Andalusia (CSIC) in Granada, Spain. The observatory enjoys the privilige of the climate in Almeria, dry and cloudless skies, what makes it possible to perform more then 200 nights of observations per year. The position of the observatory is ideal for nightly observations because of the complete obscurity and the quality of the sky. This is why this place was chosen after having studied rigorously other places all ver the world to be the seat of the observatory.

This astronomic center has a history of more then 30 years and has contributed in a decisive way to the evolution of astronomy in Spain. Amongst the complex installations are 3 reflector telescopes of different diameters, equipped with cameras and detectors of the last generation. All these instruments are at the disposal of the spanish and german astronomic society for all kinds of astronomic studies, from closeby objects in our solar system to the most remote systems.

Built on top of a hill it dominates the whole area of the Marquesado and the deep excavations and high mountains of Alquife, the iron ore mines.

The city of Guadix lies in the middle of the province of Granada. One of the oldest towns in Spain, established by the Romans for the veterans of the First and Second Legion by the name of Julia Gemella AcciGuadix becomes important during the muslim period. With its own fortress, the Alcazaba, and its city walls, it develops into an important commercial center for the whole region. After the Reconquest by the Christians the Cathedral was built, as well as many cave houses. The stately mansions, many of them built in Mudejar style, together with the little palaces and the many churches form the rich heritage of the many civilizations that lived in Guadix.

A little further up north, Purrullena is famous for its cave houses, just as Guadix. Here we will visit such typical construction in order to get a good impression of life in this kind of houses.

Alhabia is situated between the confluence of the two rivers Andarax and Nacimiento, a privileged situation in a clayish country what defines this former Muslim hamlet. Even since the beginning there is a market place for cattle and a pottery that attracted merchants from all over. The pottery in Alhabia is traditional, typical Spanish, where the art of potter has passed from father to son. A kind of handmade ceramics, in a typical Andalusian, Mediterranean style.Book now

Information about how to visit the Alhambra in Granada from Madrid:

At the feet of Sierra Nevada Mountains, between the Darro and Genil rivers, you’ll find one of the most interesting cities of Andalucia. The impressive Andalusian legacy mixes with the Renaissance architectural jewels and the modern facilities of the 21st century. Granada is the capital of the province with the same name. It’s located at the feet of Sierra Nevada Mountains, in the Betic Mountain Range, the highest mountains in the Iberian Peninsula. It has one of the largest cultural heritage of this country. Apart of the worldwide famous Alhambra Palace and the neighborhood of the Albaicin, declared as World Heritage Sites by the UNESCO, Granada holds a beautiful renaissance cathedral which construction started in the 16th century. There are plenty of monuments in every corner of this city.

The city of Granada was founded by the romans under the name of Iliberis. After the invasion of the Iberian Peninsula by the muslims in the 8th century, it was named with its current name, Granada. The Catholic Kings conquered the city in 1492, completing the Reconquest of the Iberian Peninsula for the Cristianity. During the siege of the city, the Queen Isabella I of Castile received Christopher Colombus and she granted him the means to undertake his journey to the West Indies.

This hectic history has left numerous traces such as palaces, churches and other historical buildings that shows off the nicheness cultural heritage of the city. The Alhambra monumental complex: the Generalife Gardens, the fortress Alcazaba, the medina and the Palaces of the Nasrid Kings are known worldwide for their beauty but also for the stunning panoramic views that its location offers to the visitor. Inside this complex is located as well the Renaissance Palace of the Emperor Charles V alongside the moorish bulwark.

In front of the Alhambra, on the other side of the hill, across the Darro River lies the Albaicin neighborhood, a strait and fascinating maze of winding streets, its white houses, provided with their own interior gardens are known as Carmenes. Also in Granada, you may vitis its Renaissance Cathedral considered the first one in Spain to be built in this style. Close to the Cathedral there's the Royal Chapel, that was ordered by the Catholic Kings for their own tomb. Lots of other churches and palaces fill up the city, all built by the moors after the conquer, giving birth to a unique style known as Mudejar.Book a daytrip to Alhambra Granada from Madrid. More information:

Sierra de Gador ... the great unknown... The Sierra de Gador forms a small subsystem in the southwest of the province of Almería and is situated between the Sierra Nevada, the Campo de Dalias, the vally of the river Andarax and the river Adra. This mountainrange forms a topographic barrier of a considerable height and offers a diversity of countrysides: from sealevel upto heights of more then 2.000 meters. The highest top called Morron de la Launilla, is situated at 2.249 meters. Due to the inaccessibility of some of the areas, this is a region which preserves its naturalness to a very high level. This is the reason why several oak and pine forrests have stayed untouched, which allows us to imagine how this whole region used to be.

The Poniente de Almeria lays at the foot of the Sierra de Gador, traditionally called the Campo de Dalias. It used to be a wilderness with hardly any agriculture, but thanks to the discovery of horticulture under plastic this area has changed a lot lately and has grown into one of the areas in Spain with the highest average income per head of the population. This horticulture is the most important source of income for the province.

The Alpujarra of Almeria is a complete contrast compared with the Alpujarra of Granada. The countryside here in Almeria is astonishing, different, dryer, but at the same time with many fertile areas, green, thanks to the water of the River Andarax. In the Alpujarra of Almeria one can still see little villages of pure arabic origin, situated on the many slopes, with small and steep streets.

Alhabia is situated at the confluence of two rivers, the Andarax and the Nacimiento, a privileged position in a region of clayish soil, what defines this hamlet of moorish origin. Since its beginning there is a marked place for cattle trade and a pottery, which have attracted merchants from the whole area. The pottery in Alhabia is traditional, tipically spanish, where the profession has passed from father to son, generation after generation. A handmade ceramic, in a typical andalusian, mediterranean style.

The beautiful little city of Laujar de Andarax, capital of the Alpujarra of Almeria, is situated in the valley formed by Sierra Nevada and Sierra de Gador and lies at 921 meters above sealevel. Bodegas Valle de Laujar was established in the year 1991. Their buildings are situated in the middle of the heart of the vineyards (about 600 hectares), which dispose of modern installations and a production capacity of around 1,500.000 million liters. A wine of the high mountains is being produced, with the denomination 'Vinos de la Tierra Laujar-Alpujarra’, wine area Lauja-Alpujarra.

Berja lies at the foot of the Sierra de Gador, at 14 km of the Mediterranean Coast, and at 8 km of the neighboring village of Dalias. Remarkable is the presence of numerous springs which have been the origin of different districts and centers. The erudite Manuel Gomez Moreno has emphasized this fact: there  where there was water and the earth was suitable, that is where humans settled. As from the arabic poets upto the romantic travellers of the 19th century, the water in Berja has always been mentioned.

Dalias, of an ancient history, where iberians, romans, arabs and christians left a cultural heritage of which many architectural remains have been left behind. The church of Santa Maria de Ambrox was built between the 19th and the 20th century, although the foundation took place in the year 1501. This temple was destroyed during the Revolt of the Moors in the Alpujarra. Once t was reconstructed, the church was again destroyed by the earthquake of august 25th, 1804. The main chapel has a woodcut of the Santo Cristo de la Luz, an artwork of the sevillian artist A. Castillo Lastrucci in 1939. The festivities of Dalias in honor of the Santisimo Cristo de la Luz were declared Festivities of National Touristic Importance. The festivities are unique because of their religious dedication, the emotion and because of the fireworks, as during the prosession of the figure of Christ, thousands of artificial rockets (fireworks) are lightened. The most impressive moment is the return of figure of Christ to the church.

More information: The Alpujarra ... everything you can dream of.

The Alpujarra is one of the most unique environments of Europe. The steep mountainous area with incredible hilly landscape, full with contrasts: as a result of the difference in heights and the difference in climates, we can enjoy an alpine lanscape as well as a subtropical coast.

Three colours are welldefined in the Alpujarra: green of the countryside, blue of the sky, the sea at the background, white of the villages and the nearby snow. Like the Alpujarra there are few regions that have been capable to keep their beauty and mistery. Little villages have known how to maintain their traditions, habits and lifestyles as the inhabitants of the villages in this region. What is most striking in the Alpujarra is the peculiar way of building the villages, specially villages like PampaneiraBubion and Capileira, which form a splendid Historical Artistical Unity called theAbyss of Poquiera. They maintained the berber aspect in the architecture of their houses and streets. Small white villages, balconies, covered with flowers, hanging of the terraces on the slopes and which interrupt an almost untouched nature. Villages built as terraces with steep narrow streets and their little houses of a mainly whie colour, with flat roofs. From the panoramic viewpoint of Capileira, on top of the abyss, one can see the nearby villages, Sierra Nevada, and on clear days some of the mountaintops of the north african coast.

The origin of Capileira goes back to the time of the Goths although some writers think that it goes further back in time. The name comes from the latin woord capillaris-e, which means “higher situated place”. Due to the invicible character it was one of the last places taken by the arabs and later the christians. Dring the Nasride periode it formed the Taha (an administrative area) of PoquieraCapileira was the scene for the battles between Boabdil and his uncle, El Zagal. After the Reconquest of Granada the population of Capileira stayed moslim until the Revolt of 1568, after which the moors were expelled by order of Phillip II. Later on the village was repopulated witg inhabitants from other pasrts of the Kingdom.

The village fully maintains the traditional architecture of the Alpujarra and is divided in three districts. The white houses with the flat roofs shape the small winding streets. Through the ages the inhabitants of Capileira have been charactarised by their scrupulous respect for their environment, which made of this village the perfect place to enjoy nature. The panoramic sites are ideal to enjoy the spectacular views over the Sierra de Lujar and the Sierra de la Contraviesa. Recommended is the panoramic view from el Taho del Diablo, vertically oposite Pampaneira and the one fromEl Perchel with its typical work of the Alpujarra. The most impressive is the panoramic view from the Junta de los Rios, situated at the most southern point of the left hand side of the abyss.

Bubion hangs on the precipice of Poquiera, which rises towards the mountaintop Veleta in Sierra Nevada. The architecture is the same as the berber villages, steep streets and houses with flat roofs made out of slate and adapted to the steep slopes of the area.

Pampaneira is the lowest of the three villages of the Abyss of Poqueira. This villages is know for its special architecture, which is preserves the tradition of the Alpujarra: white villages with flat roofs, with ‘sombrillo’ chimneys and the typical ‘tinaos’Pampaneira is also wellkown because of its wealth and variety in handicraft, whch goes from all sorts of ceramics to cloths that are known as ‘jarapas’, and many other typical objects of the area. The fountains are also worthwhile to be mentioned, some with medicinal mineralwater and others, as the Chumpaneira, with ‘supernatural’ powers. As one can read above the three fountains of this spring, where it is said that It is the Fountain of Virtues, and it’s power is such that when a single man drinks from this fountain with the conviction that he wants to marry, directly afterwards he will find his wife, you see!!
