More information:

Valencia is a city, unlike many others, which is able to seamlessly meld the remains of its distant past (going back to 138 B.C.) with the most innovative and cutting-edge buildings of the new millennium.

Valencia has always been the ‘gate of Spain’ because of its geographic location facing the Mediterranean Sea.  It has, like all ports, a certain charm.  Walking through the city streets and passing by its walls you get a strong sense of the centuries of history.  The Roman Forum, established by Julius Brutus, is located on the Plaza de la Virgen and this is where the origin of Valencia lies.

The City of Arts and Sciences (Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias) is the most important modern tourist destination in Valencia, inaugurated in 1998.  It is the largest entertainment-based cultural and architectural complex in Europe at 350,000 m2, certainly a good reason to visit Valencia!   This large open space (about 2 km long) situated on the old riverbed of the Turia, provides countless opportunities for its visitors: to amuse, teach, stimulate, participate, learn about culture and also have fun.

Two Spanish architects (who are internationally famous) contributed greatly to the wonderful architecture of Valencia.  Santiago Calatrava (born in Valencia) was architect for the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía, the Hemisfèric, the Museum of Science Príncipe Felipe, the Umbracle and theÁgora.  Félix Candela was responsible for the unique roofs of the main buildings of the Oceanographic Museum (built in the shape of a water lily).  Their design unifies the interior and exterior of the building creating a harmonised construction of exceptional beauty.

The Oceanographic Museum (L´Oceanogràfic) is the largest oceanographic aquarium in Europe.  It’s an impressive space where we can explore the depths of the oceans.  It is home to over 500 different species including dolphins, starfish, sea urchins, seals and penguins.

L´Hemisfèric is a building in the shape of a giant human eye.  It’s an Imax CinemaPlanetarium and Laserium.

The Museum of Sciences Principe Felipe is an interactive science museum, a fascinating place where you can learn new things a very different way.  It currently has the largest exhibition space in Spain.

The City of Porcelain (La Ciudad de la Porcelana), situated in Tavernes Blanques, near Valencia, is a spectacular 100,000 square metre complex where the creations of Lladró are born.  The Lladró Museum is an unforgettable experience.  On a guided visit to the workshops of theCiudad de la Porcelana, the artists themselves show us the whole process of manufacturing porcelain objects.

The Historic Collection of Lladró Porcelain consists of objects that have been withdrawn from the commercial catalogue, so it’s a privilege see them.  The exhibited works include those from the early 1950’s (when the Company began) up to the 1990’s.  The selected works are exhibited in the collection because of their artistic quality and historic significance.  The images show the history of the brand, a collection of the most characteristic pieces representing the different styles and materials from which they are made.
