Information about the Costa Brava:

With its geographical limits at the Mediterranean and the Pyrenees the Costa Brava is the already classical denomination for the coast of the province of Gerona. Apparently, nature, climate and history are wanting to compete in the creation of an environment with a strange attraction, difficult to apprehend, where a leafy vegetation is the counterpoint to blue, green and marine waters. Right up to the edge of the sea, at times hanging from the abrupt cliffs, sometimes near the beaches, it paints green the fine golden sand which is compared with the ochre of the earth in the inland, next to the prominence of the landscape. The 16º Celsius of average temperature per year with moderate rainfall and the 2.500 sun hours per year illuminate the artistic and historic vestiges, which communicate a noteworthy past and are only the visible configuration of a reality which has a hidden side to be discovered. Its 214 kilometres of coast spread out from Blanes to the south, enclosed by the Maresme and the Montseny, and Portbou to the north, at the French border.  Beaches, creeks, cliffs and forests alternate with places of world fame: S’Agaro, Tossa de Mar, Begur, Cadaques and Portlligat.

In the heart of the Costa Brava and situated in an environment of great natural beauty, close to the sea and not far from the mountains, Lloret de Mar is a place to fall in love with. Lloret de Mar has countless monuments of transcendental importance in the history of the village. Worth mentioning is the Mujer Marinera, a beautiful statue of a woman watching the sea, situated at a strategic point of the village. This monument harbours a profound significance for the inhabitants of Lloret de Mar as it remembers them an important part of their past. El MOLL (the Open Museum of Lloret) is an imaginary network which allows the discovery of different places of historical, cultural and natural interest. It is an open space, without walls, which runs along different scenes of the territory and allows us to learn more about the heritage of the village. The Museum of the Sea is the entrance to the MOLL and is situated in a privileged surrounding, next to the seafront and in the middle of the old town of Lloret. The seat of this cultural centre is Can Garriga, a house of Indiano style three storeys high and of great historic and patrimonial value, acquired by the Village Council in 1961. The museum has an important collection of naval models which experts qualify as extraordinary, as well as a collection of objects and materials related to the world of sailing. Both exhibitions contribute to the diffusion of the culture and history of Lloret de Mar. Cliffs, pine forests, little bays and beaches compose the coastal profile of the region of La Selva where Tossa de Mar is situated. The southernmost part of the Costa Brava gives the visitor an incredible offer of history, art and leisure at the seaside of the Mediterranean Sea. Tossa de Mar, situated at the coast of Gerona halfway between the city of Barcelona and the French border, is an old fishermen’s town with a great historical background. Tossa de Mar is like a great outdoor museum. Its prehistorical vestiges give way to a Roman Turissa, and a medieval Turisa and a modern Tossa first of all converted in refuge for artists and intellectuals and then in a generous host for tourists and visitors.
