Excursion to the white villages of Alpujarra from Roquetas de Mar

Coach trip to Trevelez from Roquetas de Mar. A beautiful excursion by bus with English speaking guides into the heart of the Sierra Nevada Mountains to discover the unique Alpujarra of Granada Region and Trevelez, famous for its Serrano hams, its ‘jarapas’ but above all because it is one of the highest villages in Spain, near the Mulhacen, the highest mountaintop of the whole Iberian Peninsula.

Departure at the indicated time from Roquetas de Mar with destination Trevelez. A trip along the southern part of Sierra Nevada, along the white villages of the Alpujarra. In Trevelez we visit a place where they air-dry the Serrano ham, in order to learn the process of preparation of one of the most representative dishes of the Spanish kitchen. There is time to enjoy a typical lunch where the Serrano ham is not missing (lunch is not included in the price). After lunch there will be free time to walk through the small streets of this andalusian village, to make beautiful pictures of this precious countryside offered by mountains which almost the whole year lay covered with snow, or to enjoy a cup of coffee on one of the many terraces on the village square. In the afternoon we will return to the hotels. Arrival at Roquetas de Mar and the end of our service.

More information about Trevelez

Trevelez is a picturesque village of Mozarabic origin, counting nowadays around 700 inhabitants who have understood how to preserve the authenticity of their lifestyle and tradition. The village lies in the middle of the Alpujarra of Granada, at the foot of the Mulhacen, between precipices and mountaintops, in the middle of the National Park of Sierra Nevada, a protected region by the UNESCO as a Reserve of the Biosphere.

At 1.476 meters above sea-level, Trevelez is one of the highest villages on the Iberian Peninsula. The environment is magnificent, with a natural wealth, a rich vegetation in the middle of nature, with two rivers flanking the village. The village, constituted by three districts which clearly differ from each other, high, middle and low, with a difference in height of around 200 meters, it stretches along the river Trevelez, with trout in abundance, flowing through spectacular high mountains, what attracts and fascinates the travellers.

Trevelez is the ideal place to rest and to step back from common day routine, and to participate in open air activities. One breaths a healthy mountain air, there hardly is any noise or pollution. Trevelez is well-known for its delicious Serrano hams, thanks to the special micro-climate with a dry, stable air the whole year through. This makes the village the ideal place to air-dry these hams.
