More information:

The beautiful town of Laujar de Andarax, capital of the Alpujarra of Almeria,  lies in a valley which is formed by the Sierra Nevada and the Sierra de Gador, at 921 meters above sealevel. Bodegas Valle de Laujar was established in the year 1991. Their buildings are situated in the heart of the vineyards (about 600 hectacres), with modern installations and with a production capacity of one and a half millon liters a year. They produce a wine from the high mountains, with the denomination “Vinos de la Tierra Laujar-Alpujarra”, Wine Region Laujar-Alpujarra.

In the middle of the Mountain range PenibeticaSierra Nevada forms the largest mountain area of the Iberian Peninsula, with an own structural unity. The Arabs called it “The Mountains of the Sun”, it possesses one of the richest flora in the wholke of Europe. In 1986 the UNESCO called itReseve for the Biosphere. With our bus we will be driving into the heart of these mountains, up to a hight of 2000 meters above sealevel, the Mountainpass La Ragua, to descend on the other side of the mountains towards the village of La Calahorra.

On the foothills of Sierra Nevada appears the village of La Calahorra, dominated by the impressive castle-palace, the first Spanish contruction where the new artistic current called Renaissance was used, meanwhile nominated as National Artistic Historic Monument. Built on top of a hill it dominates the whole area of the Marquesado and the deep excavations and high mountains of Alquife, the iron ore mines.

The city of Guadix lies in the middle of the province of Granada. One of the oldest towns in Spain, established by the Romans for the veterans of the First and Second Legion by the name of Julia Gemella AcciGuadix becomes important during the moslim period. With its own fortress, theAlcazaba, and its city walls, it develops into an important commercial center for the whole region. After the Reconquest by the Christians theCathedral was built, as well as many cave houses.

The stately mansion, many of them built in Mudejar style, together with the little palaces and the many churches form the rich heritage of the many civilizations that lived here.

A little further up north, Purrullena is famous for its cave houses, just as Guadix. Here we will visit such typical construction in order to get a good impression of life in this kind of houses.

Alhabia is situated between the confluence of the two rivers Andarax and Nacimiento, a priviliged situation in a clayish country what defines this former moslim hamlet. Even since the beginning there is a market place for cattle and a pottery that attracted merchants from all over. The pottery in Alhabia is traditional, typical Spanish, where the art of potter has passed from father to son. A kind of handmade ceramics, in a typical andalusian, mediterranean style.
